Event Description:
Stilbaai Funduro 2020
This is the second running of this event, and following feeedback from riders, the route has been shortened from150km to 90km.
Starting at The Stables Eatery and Pub the track follows predominately tight single tracks through valleys and hills until it passes through the historical town of Melkhoutfontein. From there is flows into more valleys on hard pack limestone tracks.
One compulsary refuel stop will be at km 55 at the Putstop, next to the R305. Riders should bring along a fuel container to be placed on a trailer that will be taken to the refuel stop.
From there it follows farm tracks and fire breaks until the track drops down the escarpment where it enters the Stilbaai Airfield with the finish at The Stables. The track comprises of 80% hard pack limestone and 20% sand. A couple of technical red loops branch off the main track and will test the intermediate rider and requires some skill to manouvre. Please note that this track is not recommended for novices and children due to the length and degree of difficulty.
Some experience is needed to complete this funduro. It will take the intemediate rider approximately 4 -5 hours to complete. Food and cold beer will be available at The Stables as well as some lucky draws. This promises to be the highlight of funduros for 2020 as this event takes place within breathtaking scenery and caters for the whole family as a fun day out.
Due to the nature of the track there will be a few road crossings and sections on public gravel roads. The total route will be clearly marked and marshals will be placed along the route at strategic areas. There are no river crossings.
The start and finish will be at The Stables, just before the entrance to the town of Stilbaai. The Stables is a restaurant and will also act as the registration point for riders. Ablution and bar facilities are available at The Stables.
